Dan and Ian have decided to be a little bit self-indulgent with this week’s podcast.

On today’s show, they are talking about their highlights of 2018 and goals for 2019.

In particular, they wanted to talk about what they have planned for their newest venture, Dynamite Jobs.

On this episode, they will be sharing the single goal that they are working towards for Dynamite Jobs this year.

You’ll also hear what went into the decision to choose that goal, as well as some of our biggest business takeaways heading into the new year.

In the entrepreneurial world, it’s rarely questioned that “exiting” is the end goal of a smartly built business and a prestigious waypoint in a successful career.

In 2015, Dan Andrews and Ian Schoen sold their business for multi-seven figures, and although they don’t regret selling – there are many mistakes they made that were avoidable.

The book presents thought experiments designed to help you avoid similar mistakes.

Whether you are in the early stages of building a business or thinking of selling, this book is designed to help you build with the future in mind.

Despite the “self-indulgent” nature this week, having listened to every episode, I’ve been thinking lately that y’all have really hit your podcasting stride, especially notable in some of the one-on-one interviews that both of you have conducted that have been featured over the past few weeks. Still my favorite pod, five years running.

In this episode I identified with the challenges posed by social media usage; early last year I went down such a dark hole that when I came out I was inspired to create a physical, unconnected-to-the-internet product to help people – especially but not limited to meditators – set nightly boundaries with their smartphone. Should be ready in April but anyone interested can check it out at offgridmindfulness.com, feedback welcome :)

    Thanks for the ongoing inspiration.

  • That’s really nice to hear appreciate you sharing. Cool idea good luck with the product!

  • this is actually so funny i was just in a conversation yesterday where somebody said “in 2019 alarm clocks are making a comeback…”

Great episode, have to say I enjoy the self-indulgent ones. Jealous you got a preview of Digital Minimalism and really looking forward to another interview with Cal Newport!

  • Hey Guys how do I get to download ALL of your episodes? On pocket casts and podcast addict it only goes for about 200 episodes back it doesn’t start from the beginning, thanks.

  • Hey Justin, I’m the engineer for the show. We are currently in the process of migrating to a new hosting service and one of the reasons we’ve chosen to do that is so we can make our entire back catalog available across every platform. You should start to see the rest of the episodes become available within the next week or so.

  • Cheers and noted! I love Cal’s work.

  • sweet! Didn’t know that was possible.
