Before I continue with the details of the program, let me tell you a bit more about the problem that we're trying to solve -

Education for Lifestyle Entrepreneurs Does Not Exist

If you want an education in boot-strapping a business, there is no school you can go to.

You can't get a degree in lifestyle business.

"In 2012 the average cost of the Top 10 Business Schools in the U.S. was $122,950 for tuition in a two-year MBA program."(source)

Getting an MBA is not only expensive ($122,950 anyone?) - it also prepares you for a job.

Ain't that a great deal? Spend $120K... to get a job...

"...if you want to invest two years in something that will help you succeed in business, the evidence suggests you'd do better to learn how to hack than get an MBA." - Paul Graham (source)

As far as I know, there is no definitive correlation between your level of education and your level of business success.

If you aren't going to school for something that specifically requires a credential – like practicing law in the state of California – studying for 4 to 6 years is pointless and extraordinarily expensive, and it's not even guaranteed to get you to where you wanna be.

Instead of a degree that prepares you for a job, what if someone could teach you how to build a business that secures your freedom and opportunity?

Two men sitting on a chair at the beach with a table and laptop on it

Think about it - it's Wednesday morning at 9am. Instead of the usual cubicle at your office, you are trekking through the Himalayas, relaxing on a tropical beach in Thailand, exploring a thousand-year-old temple in India, or spending time enjoying your family and kids.

It sure beats the office, doesn't it?

When Ian and I started our first business, we had to figure things out mostly on our own.

But I often wonder - what if we had someone who taught us the "ins and outs" of building a successful lifestyle business?

How many months or years could we have shaved off our learning curve?

Five years later and we're on the verge of hitting a $2 million run rate for our business (and becoming the owners of a multi-million dollar company). You might say we've "made it". We can sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

But now that we're here, we want to help other entrepreneurs do the same.

That's why we created the Tropical MBA -

A Training Program For Lifestyle Entrepreneurs Who Want A "Down And Dirty" Education In Boot-Strapping A Business, Including A 2-Week Stay In South East Asia To Focus On Your Idea

Seven men sitting inside the room, talking while one man typing on his laptop

I've watched way too many entrepreneurs waste time and money by getting caught up on problems we've already solved.

If you'd like you take your business to the next level, or if you are looking to start a new venture, I'd love for you to consider joining us for the Tropical MBA.

First, I'll give you a quick rundown of what the program is, and then below, I'll take you through the specifics of exactly how the program works.

We'll spend the first two weeks identifying your key goals for the event and then we'll help you put together a solid plan of attack. The second two weeks will be spent on-site in the Philippines. Ian and I and will work with you one-on-one to provide coaching, support and advice. Our team will be on hand to help with your logo design, website build, copyedits, auto-responders, sales videos, marketing plans, and everything that start-ups crave but don't have the budget and resources to create.

By the end of the program, our goal is that you'll leave with a solid plan for the future, tangible defined business tools and deliverables that are professionally crafted by our team of experts, and a clear trajectory for success.

You must:

  • be willing to offer help, advice, and quality feedback to your peers in the group.

  • enjoy and actively seek out peers and mentors who challenge or criticize your ideas. A big part of our experience is openly discussing each other's business ideas and problems.

  • be willing to join us for at least 12 days in the Philippines.

So About The Philippines... "Cowboy Country"...

Some people like to call the Philippines the "wild wild west" of South East Asia, and that's probably quite accurate. We are looking for adventurous entrepreneurs who are excited by the idea of spending 12 days in a developing country, not people who have their feathers easily ruffled.

Here's a quick test -

Are You Excited By The Idea Of Spending Two Weeks In The Developing World, Where You'll Meet Like-Minded Entrepreneurs, Do Some Serious Ground Work On Your Business Plus Adventurous Activities Like Trekking Deep Into The Jungle?

If so, you'll fit right in!

Are You The Type Of Entrepreneur We Are Looking For?

  • you are ambitious and determined to succeed

  • you have a huge bias for taking action and executing

  • you are willing to make the difficult decisions that move your business forward

  • you actively seek out critical feedback and information that will help you succeed

  • you are adventurous and excited by the idea of spending two weeks in the Philippines

  • you are easy-going and your feathers are not easily ruffled

Stack The Odds In Your Favor With These Great Benefits:

  • "You Can't Fail At This" Insurance. The best insurance against having to work a job you hate, or run a business you feel stuck in, is being a group of people who are doing exactly what it is you want to be doing with your life. By forging relationships with the broader network of successful location independent entrepreneurs, you are building insurance policies for your success.

  • Extraordinary external pressure to succeed. If you want to push yourself to action, get quality external pressures. Join our small group of start-ups and your actions will be transparent to your peers and our experts who can weigh in on your actions and help you to succeed.

  • Immediate access to our network of experts. We'll help you with site set-ups, design, technical decisions, even company formation and taxes if necessary. Nobody in the group will waste their time getting up to speed on problems that have already been solved by somebody else in the group. Example: When I started in online marketing, I wasted thousands of dollars on poor technology decisions with bad developers. We'll help you avoid doing the same.

  • Cross promotional opportunities and access to influencers. We have a vested interest in the success of your start-up. We'll work our personal and professional networks to find you partners, customers, and exposure.

  • Lifelong friendships. Nothing buildings lasting relationships like having a common goal and shared experience. This will be an emotional time for us all -- we all care deeply about each others' success, our business opportunities, and our personal freedom.

"What If I Don't Have An Idea?"

The good news is that you don't need an idea.

If you have an idea, great. We'll help you figure out if it's worth pursuing or not.

If you don't have an idea and don't know where to start, that's fine too. Ian and I will work with you before you get out to the Philippines and help you find an idea that suits your personality and your strengths. Also -

It does not matter what business you're in.

To show you what we mean, here is a list of some of the businesses from the first June 2012 Tropical MBA:

  • a paid service for high-level website administration tasks

  • an Ecommerce store that dropships premium dining products to the European market

  • a time-saving iPhone app that helps you find great deals in an unfamiliar city

  • an authority site that solves a common problem with useful articles and videos

  • a Shopify store that sells special products to the dental market

  • a podcast with alternative commentary for fans of world-famous bicycle race

  • a company that imports rare mechanical products into the US

  • a website that buys your old gadgets so you can update to the latest and greatest

  • a web-app that makes managing multiple online accounts dead-simple

  • consumables positioned by their effects, rather than the "commodity-type" (example: "energy-enhancing tea" rather than "green tea")

  • A manufacturing business that can take ANY product, reverse-engineer it, make it brand new for you, then ship it anywhere in the world

Like I said, it doesn't matter what business you are in, only that you can run it from a laptop via the internet anywhere in the world.

The Tropical MBA is ideal for aspiring entrepreneurs who want freedom and opportunities. It doesn't matter what industry you're in and you don't need an idea.

In The First Two Weeks, We'll Work With You 1-on-1 To Help You Identify Your Key Goals And Set The Stage For The Following Two Weeks In The Philippines

Tropical trees and a view of the beach

WEEK 1: Pre-planning and goal definition.

Once you make the commitment to join us, we will work with you 1-on-1 to identify your key goals for the event. We will also help you to draw out what we see as the biggest opportunities for you and your business.

WEEK 2: Group introductions and travel planning.

We'll coordinate some time for you to talk with other participants about your business, goals, and plans for your time in the Philippines. You will have accountability and familiarity with the group before your feet hit the sandy beaches.

During WEEK 1 and WEEK 2, we will be setting the stage for the following two weeks in the Philippines.

Along with identifying your key goals for the event, you will complete a number of exercises that will help you identify your product and marketing strategy.

You will follow our unique process and develop your key message... the "thing" that makes you different to your competitors. With this process, you will find the critical actions that will move your business forward. With your key message, you will have an explanation for why your product or service exists in the marketplace, a crucial piece that is often overlooked the business puzzle. People confuse this with "finding their niche" a bunch.

Don't know anything about business fundamentals or getting your books in order? We'll personally help you set all of these things up so you begin with a strong foundation.

As part of our unique process, you will also be required to complete a dreamline. This is where you track precisely what you want to achieve in life, generating the necessary motivation to push through the inevitable challenges on the entrepreneurial path.

It's also where you stop building yourself into a job. You'll avoid fundamental errors and ensure that you are doing this for reasons that you identify with.

Ian and I (plus our whole team) are here to help you achieve your ideal lifestyle with your ideal business.

Now Let's Talk About The REAL FUN Stuff - Two Weeks On-Site In The Philippines

WEEK 3 and 4: On-site in the Philippines.

You will fly in to Manila, the capital of the Philippines and travel to a tropical paradise, complete with coconut trees and white sandy beaches.

For your 12 day stay in the Philippines, you'll be waited on hand-and-foot by the staff at our private beach house. Check out what Dan Norris said in June 2012:

"Coffee, done, breakfast done, mango shake, lunch, beer, laundry, you name it - if the staff here could find a way to go to the toilet for you I'm sure they would. It's been pretty amazing." - Dan Norris, Tropical MBA of June 2012

We'll begin with a cocktail party, and over the following 12 days, we'll help you get on the correct path for lifestyle business success.

An "Average" Day In The Philippines (Mango Pancakes Anyone?)

  • Amazing breakfast whenever you wake up

  • Work for the morning from our quiet workspace, the collaborative area of the restaurant, or lounging on a hammock overlooking the ocean

  • Healthy lunches complete with brain-food and delicious local cuisine (have specific food requests? No problem - the resort can prepare special meals for vegetarians, allergies, and particular tastes)

  • We'll put together a presentation at 1:30 that focuses on a particular topic or strategy essential to your businesses. So far we've done workshops on SEO, Wordpress Tech and Strategy, Offshore Business and Tax Minimization, Hiring and Outsourcing, Culture Strategies, and Offer Creation.

  • Collaborate with Ian and I, our team of experts, or your peers on the lessons learned from the day's workshop and figure out how to apply it to your own business model

  • At 7:30PM, during the end stages of a fully prepared dinner, we write on the big white board our most important tasks (MIT's) for the next day, plus do some strategy shakedowns.

  • We chill out at night and get ready to do it all over again in the AM.

Since we're keeping things small, the schedule is fairly flexible. If you like to hit the gym in the morning or take afternoon naps, there's a fair chance you'll be able to fit it into the schedule. When you sign up, we'll give you more detailed daily schedules.

Business Breakthrough Sessions and Presentations...

Three men and one woman smiling at the camera

Outsourcing and Hiring Theory Sooner or later, you will need to outsource tasks and hire employees. Learn how to do it properly from the beginning, and avoid common beginner mistakes.

  • Offshore Business and Tax Basics Eventually, you will want to optimize your business setup and legally minimize your taxes. In this edgy presentation, you'll discover a number of things that we can't share on the blogs or podcast.

  • Content Marketing Rather than a shotgun approach where you "just start writing blogs posts" cause someone told you that you should, develop a proven content marketing strategy that makes sense.

  • Logo and Branding Shakedown. If you're building a business, it is a monumental waste of time to spend 5 hours creating the perfect logo. Use our team of experts to craft a beautiful logo so you can get back to building your new business.

  • Manufacturing in China Get the nitty-gritty details on manufacturing in China and how to approach suppliers. If you plan on manufacturing and shipping products, this presentation will be put your miles ahead of the game.

  • Marketing Strategy. If your marketing sucks, you will struggle even if you have a great product. In this workshop, you will develop an effective marketing strategy that will give you a fighting chance in your chosen market.

  • The "Success Mindset" In this presentation, you'll learn how to develop a "success mindset". It's one thing to read about this in books and quite another to meet people who live it. At the risk of sounding cheesy, this is one presentation you don't want to miss. Why? Because your mindset affects everything else you do and is therefore a crucial factor in your success.

...Plus Specific Action-Oriented Workshops That Move Your Biz Forward

The basic idea, articulated by Dan Norris:

"For the price of a nice website (Dan's firm charges $2,000 for a basic website), people will leave with a bunch of stuff -- things like a plan, website... so you'll go in there and make some amazing relationships, meet some great people, end up with a website and a whole lot more, and also have a whole lot of fun."

When you come to the Philippines for the Tropical MBA, you will take part in specific workshops. Just to give you an idea, here's a quick list of the deliverables from these workshops:

  • Marketing launch video workshop: Get clarity on what your business is and why you exist in the marketplace. This crucial but often-skipped step has a host of benefits... including boosting your motivation (since you have a clear idea on what you're trying to achieve). Plus it gives you a quick and powerful way to tell customers, clients and friends what you do.

  • Investor pitch deck workshop: If you need investors, you need to know how to get their attention. You'll create a pitch deck that will cause potential investors to stand up and take notice of you. This alone could be worth whatever type of investment you're looking for... $10k? $50k? $250k?

  • Wordpress development: leave with a fully SEO-ized backup-ified, beautiful website designed to take your visitors and turn them into paying customers and clients.

  • Kickass about page workshop: Don't like writing about yourself? We'll help you craft a kickass about page that sounds natural and gets people excited about your product or service.

  • Email auto-responder: Build an email auto-responder sequence that turns prospects into clients, using proven copywriting and marketing techniques

  • SEO report and strategy workshop: We'll be covering some wide ground for SEO, including basic things you should do when you setup your website, plus high-level tactics that we're afraid to talk about online.

  • PPC report and strategy workshop: One of our experts will give you a hands-on demonstration on how to use Google Adwords and other PPC networks to drive traffic and make sales... without burning a hole in your wallet.

In other words, here's what's gonna happen -

We're going to take you by the hand and show you exactly how to build a successful business. We'll help you go "the whole nine yards", working with you to create your marketing plan... your business plan... your website and logo... your email auto-responder... your pay-per-click (PPC) campaign... your SEO strategy... and lots more. We'll even talk about how to create an "About" page that not only doesn't suck, but actually works to create more sales and clients for your business.

It's impossible to say how valuable these sessions are. These workshops alone could save you tens of thousands of dollars, plus an endless amount of time. For some people, they could even be the difference between success or failure.

Whether you are a new or experience entrepreneur, these sessions should help you to take very significant steps forward in your business (who among us doesn't need to take a second look at our autoresponder! :)

One of the priceless benefits of getting 15 entrepreneurs together in a room is the wealth of shared knowledge.

Did your site get hacked? There's a strong chance that someone in the room can get your site back up and running in a few minutes. (This actually happened at our June classes.)

Think You'll Be Working All Day, Everyday? Nope - This Is About Building A Business To Support Your Ideal Lifestyle, Not A Work-Until-You-Drop Business.

That's why we have planned a number of adventurous activities to break up the working periods:

  • Scuba diving Puerto Galera has 40 world-renowned scuba diving sites. I'm not lying when I say that it's one of the best places to go scuba diving. Sean, my buddy from the Philippines, tells me that Verde Island (one of the main dive sites in the area) was declared by marine biologists the "center of marine biodiversity in the world".

  • Private beach party After a few dives, we'll spend the afternoon on a private beach for a gourmet lunch, ice cold beers and plenty of stimulating discussion.

  • PARTY! Filipino delicacy dinner This is a hilarious night, especially when you see the look on someone's face when they realize what they're about to eat. Google "balut" for more info.

  • Sunset and shakes at White Beach White Beach is one of the local tourist towns. True to its name, it's a long white sandy beach. Along the beach there are numerous restaurants, bars, and shops. Sit down at one of the tables and experience one of Puerto Galera's magnificent sunsets.

  • Jungle trekking to the Hidden Paradise First, we'll take a jeepney (local-style transport) 1.5 hours into the jungle. Once at the trailhead, we'll load up a few caribou (they look like buffalo) with the food and drinks and walk for an hour into the jungle, in true "Indiana Jones" style. Our destination is a hidden waterfall with refreshingly cool water. It's a great place to explore and swim. Around lunchtime, we'll have another gourmet meal in the picnic shelters. The food will be presented on fresh banana leaves -- no plates allowed here! During the June classes, a group of guys spent an hour exploring up the river, while others found sections of the river that could be used like a water-slide.

  • Nightlife! During the evenings, we'll have the opportunity to revel in the infamous Puerto Galera nightlife. From nightclubs blaring the latest dance hits to relaxed restaurants and late-night beach parties, there is something for everyone. But be warned - when the locals find a song they like, they like to play it at least a thousand times...

Sound Like A Mix Between A Business Conference And An Epic Adventure?

That's because it is a business conference and an epic adventure.

Along with building your new business we hope you also have a helluva time with everyone.

The Tropical MBA is primarily about creating a business that fuels your ideal lifestyle. By the time you return, you will have a received a hands-on education and you should be well on the way to living your ideal lifestyle.

We really do believe that building a successful business is the best way to create more personal freedom and opportunity for you, your family, and those around you.

You will also take home with you a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The day may come when living and working abroad is commonplace, but today, the privilege is available to very few.

These days, while Ian and I are still busy with our own businesses, we have reached a point where we can do whatever we want, and now -

We want to help you do the same.

Along with everything mentioned above, when you sign up, you will receive:

  • 2 weeks stay at our private beach house in Puerto Galera, Philippines.

  • 2 weeks of food, drinks, and snacks. You'll have 3 great healthy meals a day, snacks, and unlimited access to coffee, tea, and fresh water. We'll be focusing on serving brain food that will keep us fit and focused

  • Free laundry and room service. You'll be waited on hand and foot at the beach house. You won't have to think of any lifestyle overhead. 100% of your focus will be on your business, hanging out with the crew, and having fun

Not included:

  • Your round trip (or 1 way!!!) airfare to Manila, Philippines. Please book your ticket to arrive in the Philippines at least 2 days before your program begins. (I'll send customers detailed instructions on this within 48 hours of their sign-up, so don't worry. It'll be 100% clear.)

Questions From Readers And Listeners:

  • What is Puerto Galera like? "PG", as we call it, is truly a tropical paradise. Much of the island of Mindoro is untouched with amazing vistas, quiet roads, and trails for hiking and biking. I find it to be an ideal retreat to focus on work, but don't worry, there's still plenty of nightlife and beaches for us to unwind when we need a little time away from the computers.

  • What are the accommodations like? Our private beach house has an amazing location. The food they cook is outstanding. The surroundings are inspiring. The rooms themselves are not luxury -- this is a traveler's hotel on a beautiful secluded beach. Your room will be very small, but brand new and clean. You'll have a hot shower and A/C in the room. This isn't 5-star stuff.

  • Is this program better for new start-ups or established businesses? To be honest, I see this program as equally benefiting entrepreneurs in both situations. We aren't going to teach you random stuff about "SEO", we are going to help you get to the precise next step in your business.

  • Can I do this program if I can't make it to the Philippines? Not this time, sorry.

  • How much money will I spend when in PG? It's totally up to you. It could be nothing, but I'd budget $100 to $300 bucks for a few nights out, shakes on the beach, diving & snorkeling adventures, etc.

  • Do I need a good business idea? Nope! Coming up with good ideas is easy. We can help you generate ideas on a private phone call, no problem. The difficult part is executing on that idea, and that's why we have put so many resources into this program that help entrepreneurs execute.

Before I Give You The Price, Let Me Just Take A Hot Minute To Be A Little Bit Salesy:

If you were to organize a comparable trip to a similar resort to have a working retreat, you could easily spend up to $1,500 on food and accommodation alone. By leveraging a bulk rate and going to my good friend's resort, we can drive costs down huge.

  • $1,247: accommodation, food, plus free laundry and room service

During the 4-week program, you will receive 1-on-1 coaching with Ian and I. Imagine having Ian and I look over your shoulder and helping you figure out the next action steps in your business. When we have offered business coaching in the past, the going rate was $250/hour. By the end of the event, you will have received at least 12 hours of 1-on-1 coaching.

  • $3,000 (12 hours at $250/hour): 1-on-1 coaching with Dan and Ian

Along with 1-on-1 coaching with Ian and I, we will be doing daily group coaching, presentations, wrap ups and exit interviews. These sessions are hard to put a price tag on, but they could save you hours of time and thousands of dollars.

  • $2,000: daily group coaching, presentations and workshops, wrap ups, exit interviews and more

Here are just some of the things you'll get and create from the sessions and workshops offered by our team of experts: a marketing plan, a business plan, a beautiful and SEO-optimized website, a great logo, an email auto-responder, a pay-per-click campaign, and a kickass about page.

When you join the Tropical MBA we develop a vested interest in seeing you succeed and we're gonna make damn sure that you have everything you need to get there.

Just like the presentations, the business-building workshops and sessions have the potential to save you tens of thousands of dollars in cash plus an endless amount of time.

  • $10,000+: Business-building Workshops and Clinics

My team of developers will be staffing this event. If you aren't super tech-savvy, sitting down for a few hours with these guys could potentially save you thousands on Elance or Odesk. These developers have a huge portfolio of money generating sites under their belt. No guesswork required.

  • $1,000 (at least): Developers and support staff

Along with general tech support, you'll also be able to get a fully SEO-optimized website that looks great and is designed fast (if you need one). If you go the usual route and get your website designed by a web design company, you're looking at a $2,000 price tag for something decent. We'll also fit you out with a professional logo. If you use a site like 99designs.com for your logo, you'll spend at least $299 for a logo.

  • $2,000: professional website design, SEO-optimized

  • $299: professional logo design

Last but not least, we're gonna throw in a free 3-month subscription to the Dynamite Circle ($97).

And that's just the stuff that's easy to put a price on.

If you join us for the Tropical MBA, there are a number of other benefits that are "priceless".

What's the value of 15 or 20 like-minded entrepreneurs in the same room? Imagine if the solution to your problem was a table away, rather than a phone call or email. Problems are solved in minutes instead of hours or days.

Given that different people bring different skillsets, it's a safe bet that by leveraging the skills of someone in the room, you'll find a solution to whatever business problem you have.

We will also be inviting experts in very specific areas to spice up the presentations and share their specialized knowledge. These experts vary each time, but previous guests include Travis Jamison, the SEO pro and Tim Conley, the man behind the Foolish Adventure Podcast and Foolish University.

Like the benefits of being in a room of entrepreneurs, it's hard to put a specific value on the time of these guys. If they offered personal consulting, they could probably charge at least $200/hour. It's likely you'll receive at least 10 hours of personalized coaching support from this team, creating at least $2,000/hour value per person.

So What's This 4-Week Business-Building Package Worth?

  • $1,247: accommodation, food, plus free laundry and room service

  • $3,000 (12 hours at $250/hour): 1-on-1 coaching with Dan and Ian

  • $2,000: daily coaching sessions, presentations and workshops, wrap ups, exit interviews and more

  • $10,000+: business-building workshops and sessions

  • $1,000 (at least): Developers and support staff

  • $2,000: professional website design, SEO-optimized

  • $299: professional logo design

  • $97: Dynamite Circle, 3 months

  • $2,000: experts in relevant areas

  • $Priceless: being in a room with 15 other entrepreneurs with similar goals to you, offering varied skillsets and a driving desire to see their peers succeed

Put all that together and you end up with a total value of over $20,000, not including the "priceless" elements. That's an investment most start-ups can't afford to make. It bridges on traditional MBA costs.

We're not into guru pricing or overcharging. We want the Tropical MBA to be insanely valuable to entrepreneurs.

Our goal for the Tropical MBA is that you'll leave with a clear trajectory aimed for the type of success you've set out to achieve.

The Tropical MBA Is About Building A Business That Gives You Freedom And Opportunity

A guy lying in a hammock while holding his laptop

That's why the program is NOT $21,643.

Instead, the price to join us is just $1,997.

I could go on here, but you probably would agree - this price is super aggressive. Our goal here is to make it accessible to you. We want you to join us.

The most common piece of feedback we have received is "why is the price so low?" and many have suggested we raise the price. We'll probably take that advice at some point, but not before we've taken a few groups of entrepreneurs through the program and helped them kick some serious ass.

Most people pay $5k to $10k for a conference where they listen to high-flying business dudes jump around on-stage, only to be up-sold into $25k "Platinum" programs...

But instead of that, imagine spending two weeks in our private beach house on a beautiful tropical island in the Philippines for $1,997. With 1-on-1 business coaching, special presentations, a team of experts and professionals, a proven process that moves your business forward plus plenty of networking with like-minded people.

This $1,997 could be the most important investment you ever make in your business.

What do you think? If you have a sense of adventure, a rigid determination to succeed and a strong desire to live life on your own terms, I think you could benefit from the Tropical MBA.

I hope you'll join us.

This could be the beginning of everything being different.

Cheers,

Dan

On Tuesday morning, I'll be sending this offer to more than 300 people who have signed up to receive early-action notifications on upcoming Tropical MBA.

If there are any spots left on Thursday, I'll be making this offer live to the public.

Obviously, this is a big decision, but a quick warning: the first time we ran this offer, we sold out 30 spots in 48 hours. We're not into fake urgency, but in this case, there is a very real possibility that this will sell out again. When we do, we will add you to our wait-list. Even then only 2 spots became available during the first two Tropical MBA's.
