Kudos to this guys, great podcast. Already bought those books for my kindle.

The books that Aamir recommends are –

Cashvertising by Drew Eric Whitman – http://www.cashvertising.com/
Words That Sell by Richard Bayan – http://amzn.to/6NIKf6

(took me a few listens to catch the first one)

+1 for Northern Thailand!!! This place is soooo under-rated IMO, especially for the LD business expat. Cost of living to ‘what you get’ ratio is mind-blowing (food, housing, infrastructure, internet). What you miss by not having a beach, you can gain in waterfalls, hotsprings, nature, and calming relaxation.

Absolutely great stuff. Question for Aamir: Are you direct linking to these offers or are you sending the traffic to a landing page and doing a bit of pre-selling?

What was that leads site that he mentioned?

    Great podcast guys.

Affiliate marketing is a play I want to get into sometime next year. Got other things I need to complete first but just wanted to +1 words that sell, I have owned it for a year and always find myself flicking through it. Great for ideas and inspiration.

Leadimpact.com. I’m checking it out as we speak.

  • http://www.tropicalmba.com Dan

    Cheers thanks Matt!

emailed Aamir on this one, he’s traveling right now so it might be a bit until he can get back to you. I know he works a lot with landing pages.

  • http://www.tropicalmba.com Dan

Looking forward to visiting you guys in 2012.

  • http://www.tropicalmba.com Dan

    Cheers man thanks for that!!!

not sure on Aamir’s answer but while Google doesn’t allow it anymore, direct linking is still allowed on Adcenter.

Downloaded Words That Sell – Read through the first part but then it turns into more of a reference book than a book to “read.” Is that how Aamir approaches it?

I’m thinking it’s going to be great as a thesaurus companion guide when I’m writing copy, but less useful if I try and force myself to read a bunch of phrases categorized together….

    Thoughts?

Think I got the Cashvertising book at work – if not, I’ll DL it tomorrow and make my way through it.

  • http://www.tropicalmba.com Dan

word regarding words that sell, hopefully it’ll be useful for guys like you that are already in the game.. probably a bad book to rant after.

everybody at the house has loved cashvertising.

Joel, as an owner of that book it’s just a reference material

A lot of great stuff in this episode.
The challenge, Aamir was talking about, is actually a good place to start if you are new to internet marketing and you also get a month or more free trial of Market Samurai. That’s the url if anybody is interested. http://challenge.co/training/.

Cheers Ivan thanks for the helpful link!

  • Aamir

Nailed it — it’s just a reference book that never fails to give me ideas. If I’m not sure on what call to action to use, I flick through to the call to action page and it gives me a million and one ideas.

Personally, I think it’s useful for anyone who writes copy to have a copy lying around. It’s an awesome cure for writers block.

Leadimpact is a contextual pop up advertising network. It’s an interestingly strange traffic source but the learning curve on it is steep. I lost quite a bit of money before I got the hang of it and started making some.

If you want to learn how to do contextual affiliate marketing, hit up http://www.affplaybook.com — I learned from these guys and their info is top notch.

stackthatmoney.com and imgrind.com also have contextual training but I’m not sure how good it is.

  • Aamir

I tinkered around with direct linking dating offers on adcenter, but that’s about it. I use landing pages 99% of the time because it allows me to use certain angles and use my knowledge of sales psychology as much as I can.

Use the knowledge gleaned from Ca$hvertising to build your landing pages and I guarantee you’ll outperform direct linking every time and get a better ROI.

Aamir definitely knows his stuff. This guy is a goldmine of information.

Some great tips on getting started with PPC type affiliate marketing.

Something to keep in mind is that there is more to affiliate marketing than mathematical analysis of PPC campaigns.

I’m definitely not that way inclined, and I don’t do PPC – but I’m an affiliate marketer.

I’d say my main skills are in on-page SEO and converting content into $. I use my gut feeling a whole lot as well.

I think people get the wrong understanding of what affiliate marketing is. You can get started by writing 20 awesome pages on a niche you are passionate, get some rankings for converting keywords and sell.

It’s not all about big spending PPC campaigns and tweaking ads.

Great podcast, really enjoyed it… especially the part describing the advantages of each of those paid communities.

  • http://www.tropicalmba.com Dan

True true, actually part of the reason I was so interested to hear Aamir’s story…. almost all of my experience with affiliate marketing comes from talking to guys building sites and doing SEO.

  • Faith

Wow… and he never mentions warrior forum or digital point forum(low level aff marketing resource?). I will definitely read those books.
