Today’s show is a special one.

  • Congrats Ian! And good luck too. :)

Excellent tips Martijn, thanks! I became much more motivated when my daughter was born, and less likely to waste time on unimportant busy-work. The downside was not enough sleep for a long time, but my businesses were still OK.

  • What’s the link to the “shitty parent” thing mentioned?

  • Congrats Ian! And Martijn on #2!

Well, this episode is timely for me :-) I really like the point about not blindly accepting the default negative belief of “your life is over.” (The other thing people keep saying to us is “now you need a minivan” – uhh, we’re having ONE kid right now, not five!)

I absolutely love the fact that as entrepreneurs, we have the time flexibility that most parents wish for, plus the opportunity to give our kids a very global/multi-cultural upbringing.

And I’ve definitely felt the effects of the sharpened focus already – the past few months have been SUPER productive as I push a bunch of projects through to completion and prep my business to run mostly on autopilot for the first four months or so.

One topic I’d like to hear more about is division of labor / caring for the baby between partners, especially when mom is an entrepreneur as well. I know every couple works out their own balance, but it’d be cool to hear some tips and what’s worked well for people.

  • Great ep…Martijns DC thread was a big help to me before our daughter was born especially navigating the huge amount of negativity I felt like I was getting from people with a more traditional western world life – as per @ShaynaOliveira:disqus comment above, I heard so much nonsense she was born about how my life was over etc etc but it’s turned out to be none of that

Big discussion point for us was what to do with social media so made the decision to have zero baby pics online on FB, instagram etc as we both agreed that it’s her decision as to when/if she has an online profile. The screens thing too was a big one and agree with Martijn’s thoughts…..its crazy when you see little kids at the mall walking around glued to an iphone bumping into people – brain rewiring aside, that’s got to be completely screwing up their posture and will likely have lifelong implications

  • Congrats Shayna!!

  • Ian

Sorry, but don’t have it :(

  • Love love love this episode! Enjoying the comments too!
